This is the album cover for 'Day & Age' by The Killers. It looks almost aboriginal in style due to the circles which the picture is broken into. The band name is shown clearly at the centre of the album cover, this is a big selling point, as The Killers are a very well known band. The album art is by an artist named Paul Normansell, who also created images, in the same style as the album cover, of the band members, which can be found inside the disk. Purple is an unusual colour to see on an album, so this would help it stand out on shelves, as would the 'cracked effect' which the album art has. This album cover also won Rolling Stone's 'Best Album Art of 2008' award. This would also give the album more publicity.

This is the album cover of 'Casually Dressed and Deep In Conversation' by Funeral For A Friend. The cover shows a man and woman sat on a rock at a high altitude while their heads are wrapped and bound together with a white sheet, although they are still not touching and are facing away from each other. This could represent the point of the album, that people may be close but still hide some things about themselves (white sheet covering faces), it is, however, based on the two paintings 'The Lovers' by Belgian artist René Magritte. This may also represent the idea that 'love is blind'. We can therefore suggest the set list contained within this album will have some songs about love. The dark sky above them, however, could represent sadness or sorrow, therefore we could assume that the songs may not be typical love songs. The photograph should help this album stand out on shelves and create a talking point amongst the audience, thus increasing sales. The costumes worn by the people in this photo are consistent with that of 'The Lovers', although the red does stand out and could be considered eye catching.

This is the album cover to 'Crimson' by Alkaline Trio. The black and white, as well as the red writing, is a convention of the rock/emo genre of music. As we see, the image of the woman is blurred but very large in comparison with the image of the man. This could indicate what direction the album takes, the man could be trying to forget about the woman (hence the blurring) but can't (the image is very large). This style of lyrical content is also a convention of this genre. The man (who is also the bands drummer) is seen to be wearing a victorian style hat, which also goes well with the black and white imagery. It is almost 'film-noir' album art. It leads us to believe that the songs contained in the album will not be positive songs but songs that deal with issues such as a break up or a woman's involvement with a man's life. We may argue that this cover wouldn't stand out in a CD rack, but as many of today's albums are littered with colour, black and white may catch the eye of a potential buyer. This cover may not have to attract new fans as Alkaline Trio are already signed to a major label and the demographic will already know what to look/ask for.

We sent messages to multiple artists asking for permission to use use one of their songs in our music video. We received around 6 positive replies and decided to use the song 'Baby, You Amaze Me' by Select Start. We have chosen this due to it's lyrical content and also the conventions shown in the song, such as electronic synthesizers mixed with guitar riffs and complex drum beats. We feel that this mixture of elements will help us to create a good video.
